Asia-Pacific Region Gets Ready for 4G

The Asia-Pacific region will see the launch of several 4G phone services in the coming year with operators in many countries – including China, Malaysia and Singapore – getting ready to launch 4G phone networks.

Singapore Telecommunications, the largest mobile phone carrier in Singapore – which also has operations in Australia, Indonesia and the Philippines – will start 4G trials in the first half of 2010 as a prelude to full 4G.

In Malaysia, YTL Communications has signed a 15-year agreement with Telekom Malaysia to use it’s technology to roll its own 4G WiMAX network. The network is due to launch nationwide in 2010.

China Mobile plans to launch 4G services in early 2011, with trials beginning early next year.
