Verizon 4G, “All In One Go”

Verizon will launch it’s new 4G mobile phone network in one fell swoop – rather than gradually switch on the network city by city, according to Tony Melone, Verizon Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer.

Melone describes the new 4G network as an “overlay” rather than a “switchover” as much of the current 3G technology will be reused for 4G. Although new devices will be needed to make use of the network, Verizon won’t force mobile customers to migrate.

Verizon is already trialling a 4G phone network in Boston and Seattle.
