Verizon 4G Phones – 6 Months Earlier Than Promised
CTO of Verizon 4G, Anthony Melone, has promised that the mobile phone company will start selling its first 4G phones by the middle of 2011.
Although Verizon have given no indication of a likely handset supplier, Melone pointed out the new time frame for the first Verizon 4G phone is six months earlier than previously expected.
He also confirmed that metered or tiered mobile data plans are more likely for the new phone service than the current selection of unlimited data plans, a view also shared by AT&T for its new network.
Sprint 4G Phones By Year End
Sprint has been busy this last week denying wide circulated reports that it will introduce a 4G phone before summer.
Although a Sprint executive reportedly told Forbes this week that the mobile company plans to introduce a 4G WiMAX phone by the summer, the official Sprint line now seems to be that it’s sticking to its earlier promise of phones by the end of the year.
Hmmm. Anyone else smell a fish?
First Nokia 4G Phone Soon
According to production schedules released by the technology department of Nokia the mobile phone company will release its first 4G phone later this year, making Nokia one of the first phone companies to produce a 4G phone.
A number of 4G networks are already operating or are just around the corner. Verizon 4G is due to launch soon, while AT&T 4G should be online in 2011.
In Canada, both Bell and Telus have announced new 4G networks in the pipeline.
Sprint 4G – Android Phone Soon
It seems Sprint is planning a new Android 4G smartphone codenamed “Supersonic”. The HTC phone will be similar to the HTC HD2 with a large 4.3 inch touchscreen.
Running on Android 2.1 it’ll be one of the first 4G phones available in the United States and will run on the Sprint 4G network.
Technical specs include a 1Ghz Snapdragon processor and Sense UI plus a kickstand on the back for relaxing back and enjoying those HD videos streaming via 4G…
Clear 4G – Dual Mode WiMAX Smartphone Coming
Clear 4G is about to start selling what it says is the first dual mode 4G phone. No announcement has yet been made by Clear on an exact date for the phone release, other than “later this year”.
The new 4G phone will provide voice calls and data downloads of around five times as fast as a 3G phone, says Clear 4G.
Sprint 4G Windows WiMAX Phone
Sprint 4G looks set to deliver on its promise earlier this year of a 4G WiMAX phone in 2010.
The phone division of both Sprint and mobile phone company LG have sent invitations to an event at next months CES trade show at which it’s thought they’ll announce a new smartphone that runs Windows Mobile and can connect to 4G WiMAX networks.
No further details are available for the Sprint / LG 4G phone, so we’ll have to wait until CES on January 6 to find out more.
ZyXEL Launches ZLR-2070S 4G Router
ZyXEL Communications will launch a new 4G router soon. The ZLR-2070S is a 4G LTE router that can be used in the home or small office. ZyXEL plans to demonstrate the new device at the Las Vegas CES 2010 show in January.
Main features of the ZyXEL TLR-2070S include two VoIP ports, home networking, 11n wireless switch and a USB port for sharing devices like printers and storage drives.
Data transfer rates while in 4G coverage areas are up to 50Mbps.
Samsung Mondi 4G Phone Now Available in Dallas / Fort Worth
Clearwire is now selling the Samsung Mondi 4G phone in the Dallas / Fort Worth area, coinciding with its launch of 4G WiMAX in that market.
The Samsung Mondi is a WiMAX mobile internet device with a 4.3 inch touchscreen that comes with a slide out qwerty keyboard as well as access to emails and web content, video and multimedia content and business apps.
The future looks bright for the Samsung Mondi – Clearwire has hinted it’ll be launched in other markets like Boston and Washington DC and it’ll be available to Time Warner Cable mobile customers in the next few months.
