Clearwire is now selling the Samsung Mondi 4G phone in the Dallas / Fort Worth area, coinciding with its launch of 4G WiMAX in that market.

The Samsung Mondi is a WiMAX mobile internet device with a 4.3 inch touchscreen that comes with a slide out qwerty keyboard as well as access to emails and web content, video and multimedia content and business apps.

The future looks bright for the Samsung Mondi – Clearwire has hinted it’ll be launched in other markets like Boston and Washington DC and it’ll be available to Time Warner Cable mobile customers in the next few months.

Samsung Shows Off First 4G WiMAX Roaming Service

Mobile phone manufacturer Samsung and VMAX Telecom, a 4G WiMAX operator in Taiwan, have announced a successful demonstration of the first mobile WiMAX roaming service.

The demo took place at the Broadband Taiwan conference using a Samsung Mondi registered on the Clearwire Mobile WiMAX service in the US but accessed through the VMAX 4G phone service in Taiwan.

Roaming 4G services mean it’ll be easier to use your mobile phone abroad.

Although the Samsung Mondi has a microphone it cannot be used to make regular phone calls. Instead, the Samsung Mondi supports services like Fring – the free voice over IP service (think Skype) – and is also jam-packed with multimedia features for email, web, video and audio use.

The Mondi also comes with a ready-to-go GPS navigation system and QWERTY keyboard.
