First 4G Network Launched

Scandinavian mobile phone operator, TeliaSonera, has launched the world’s first commercial 4G phone network based on LTE technology.

The new 4G phone service is available now to customers in Stockholm, Sweden and Oslo, Norway. TeliaSonera says it’ll start rolling out the service to other major cities in Sweden and Norway soon.

The mobile operator also has a 4G license for Finland.

Motorola Builds 4G Network in 10 Days

Motorola has setup a test LTE / 4G network in Stockholm, Sweden. The network – which Motorola claims to have installed and optimized in only ten days – is intended to showcase its 4G hardware systems to Nordic mobile phone operators.

The technology demos apparently take place in a van crammed with high tech equipment and show video conferencing, web browsing, VoIP calls and more happening on a live Motorola 4G network.

Cheekily, it seems Motorola parks the van in the same district of Stockholm as Ericsson HQ :)
