TeliaSonera To Expand 4G Sweden & Norway Coverage

TeliaSonera, the 4G phone operator in Sweden, is expanding its network coverage to another 29 cities across Sweden and Norway.

The mobile service is currently data only – the first 4G phones aren’t expected to hit the mobile market in Europe until next year. Until then, users access the service by wireless modems / dongles. Charges to access the 4G phone service are SKr599 / $83 a month for 30GB of data.

TeliaSonera is also planning to launch 4G in Finland and will also bid for 4G network licenses in Denmark, Estonia and Lithuania.

Sweden 4G Extended

TeliaSonera, the 4G phone mobile provider in Sweden and Norway, has set a target to increase 4G coverage in those countries to a further 25 areas in Sweden and another 4 in Norway.

The company already offers 4G in Stockholm and the Norway capital, Oslo. The rollout will happen during 2010. The mobile operator also has a 4G license for Finland.

First 4G Network Launched

Scandinavian mobile phone operator, TeliaSonera, has launched the world’s first commercial 4G phone network based on LTE technology.

The new 4G phone service is available now to customers in Stockholm, Sweden and Oslo, Norway. TeliaSonera says it’ll start rolling out the service to other major cities in Sweden and Norway soon.

The mobile operator also has a 4G license for Finland.

Samsung 4G USB Modem Coming

The world’s number one mobile phone manufacturer, Samsung, says it’s signed a deal to supply fourth generation phone technology to TeliaSonera, the largest mobile company in Northern Europe. The company will make 4G USB data modems.

TeliaSonera is expected to commercially launch it’s 4G phone plans next year in Sweden and Norway.

Nepal thinks about 4G phone network

Nepal Telecom is said to be carrying out a feasibilty study on launching a fourth generation phone network in Nepal. The process is likely to take two months, after which interested companies will be asked to submit tenders.

Reception seems to be luke warm, however.

Swedish telco TeliaSonera – which is launching a 4G network in Sweden – owns 80% of local carrier Spice Nepal but the company has stated publicly that they want to concentrate on getting more phones into the market before pushing new services such as 4G.

Perhaps they should reconsider – you could make a pretty good 4G tower out of Mount Everest.

4G in Stockholm, Sweden

Ericsson and TeliaSonera have opened the world’s first commercial Long-Term Evolution (LTE) site in Stockholm, Sweden.

Stockholmers can now enjoy a true mobile broadband experience – super high data speeds for goodies such as internet TV, mobile video blogging, online video games and – if absolutely necessary – work related stuff.

That is, of course, if anyone in Sweden has 4G mobile phone yet.

The new 4G site is part of a commercial 4G network scheduled for 2010.
