Clearwire 4G in Austin, San Antonio & North Texas
Clear 4G launches today in Austin, San Antonio and North Texas. The Clear 4G coverage area should total around 1,300 square miles and include 3.6 million potential mobile phone customers.
The 4G service area includes Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, Tarrant, Denton and Collin counties and according to the Clear 4G press release also extends north to McKinney and Denton, east to Rockwall, west to Fort Worth and south to Mansfield, Burleson, Arlington and Duncanville.
By the end of the year Clearwire plans to have eleven 4G phone markets in Texas and a further twenty five coverage areas across the US offering 4G.
Sprint 4G Live in Austin & San Antonio, Texas
Sprint 4G is now live for phone users in two more Texas cities – Austin and San Antonio.
As with all cities covered by Sprint 4G, promised download speeds on the WiMAX powered network are between 3Mbps and 6Mbps – fast enough for VoIP services like Skype.
Sprint has publicly states that it intends 100% 4G Texas coverage by the end of the year.

Hot on the heels of its recent 4G Chicago launch, Sprint 4G is promising that by the end of this year it’ll have “most of Texas” hooked up to its mobile WiMAX phone service – including San Antonio and Austin.
At the same time, Sprint 4G networks are due to become operational in Washington, Hawaii and Oregon.
4G in Texas from Sprint
High speed mobile internet access is now available to Sprint mobile users in Texas.
Sprint’s 4G phone coverage is now available in Corpus Christi, Wichita Falls, Waco, Midland-Odessa, Lubbock, Killeen-Temple, Abilene and Amarillo in Texas.
Two non-Texas markets are also now getting 4G: Milledgeville in Georgia and Salem in Oregon.
Sprint has a number of new 4G devices planned for the coming twelve months – including 4G data cards, embedded laptops and a 4G phone.
Clear 4G in Texas and Beyond
Clear has launched 10 new 4G phone markets across the US.
The new areas where the WiMAX service is available are: Boise (Idaho), Bellingham (Washington) and the following markets in Texas: Abilene, Amarillo, Corpus Christi, Killeen/Temple, Lubbock, Midland / Odessa, Waco and Wichita Falls.
Clear 4G is currently available in 14 markets covering more than 10 million potential 4G cell phone users.
CLEAR 4G – Ten launches on Sept 1
Clearwire will launch 4G WiMAX services in 10 US markets on September 1. The lucky areas will be Boise, Idaho and Bellingham, Washington along with 8 markets in Texas: Abilene, Amarillo, Corpus Christi, Killeen / Temple, Lubbock, Midland/Odessa, Waco and Wichita Falls.

The company plans to launch other 4G services later this year – including Chicago, Charlotte, Dallas / Fort Worth, Honolulu, Philadelphia and Seattle.
Other metro areas – like New York, Boston, Washington D.C., Houston and San Francisco – will have to wait until 2010 for their CLEAR 4G service.
